Romeo & Juliet

As some of you know I am homeschooled. For my writing assignment last week I had to write a paper on Romeo & Juliet. I thought that it would be nice to share with you my inner thoughts about the book/play as well as life.

In the play Romeo & Juliet by William Shakespeare, we see the result of placing importance on culture, and birth status, in the end it kills them. Unfortunately these things are still present in today's society and not just in Shakespeare's. That is what I will be tackling today.

The cultures that we are born in effect what kind of ambitions and paths are set before us. If you are born into the hood then the people, and the cultures around you expect you to end up in a gang, become a druggie, kill someone, and then die in prison.

But if you were born into a senators  family then it is expected of you to be a success in life. Either you become a senator yourself or you become a prosperous  business person who lives on the upper east side.

Where you are born puts a lot of pressure on your future and gives you so little room to follow your heart. This was the dilemma that both of the main characters felt. They could not truly be together because it would be against their family's wishes, and expectations. Juliet was to marry an old Friend of her Father and Romeo was to find some rich lady. They were forced, as we are, to follow the plans that others have set before us. The need to stay hidden was what caused their deaths.

After they died the feuding families finally realised that they where at fault. But why does it take such an dramatic event to awaken people to the error of their ways? I think that the answer to this question is that we as people don't rely on GOD. We don't live in constant yearning to follow God's will for our lives.

So I challenge you to follow your heart and not to be afraid of being different. Follow God's will because what He has in plan is something that we could never imagine!

Thanks and GOD Bless!!

  1. I love your reflections on Romeo and Juliette Wiggles. I see so much of this as a teacher of young children - giving children the tools, confidence and sense of self-worth to become all they can be no matter the challenges they face is one of the greatest gifts we can give them
