Swimming and My Boy
Kiwi Boy has been swimming since before his first birthday.
Jelly Beans had had her first swim lesson when I was still in the hospital after Kiwi Boy was born and after six months she felt it was about time her little brother learned the art of swimming.
He has been all in ever since!
This swim season hasn't been so good on him though. He started well then complained of an earache. After just three weeks in the pool he had to get out and stay out. Fluorescent yellow liquid was seeping out of his right ear. A doctor's visit confirmed a burst eardrum!
Two weeks on antibiotics and the hole was closing but still not good. So it was off to a specialist. Kiwi Boy was given permission to do dryland training with his team but absolutely no pool time. First he needed custom built earplugs. He missed the first swim meet of the season.
So with six weeks out of the pool, new uncomfortable earplugs, and only one week of in pool training he went to his first swim meet of the year this past weekend. Not great expectations, just the hope that he would finish his races without a disqualification.
Boy did he surprise us!
He swam in the male 12 and under age group and swam his heart out. This is why he continues to train every school night and Saturday mornings.
In the 200m backstroke he came 3rd in a time of 3:04.40 Going over 1.5 seconds faster than his top time.
In the 200m freestyle he also came 3rd in a time of 2:39.47 Taking off 10 seconds
from his fastest time!
In the 200m breaststroke he placed 2nd in a time of 3:25.43 Slicing 11 seconds off his fastest time!
His last individual race of the 3 day meet was the 200m butterfly.
He held his own and finished 1st in a time of 3:21.96 Improving on his fastest time by over 7.5 seconds and beating the next swimmer by over 10 seconds.
My boy was on fire!!!
He also swam in the relay team, swimming the 50m freestyle leg in a time of 31.00 Another personal best time!
We are so proud of him!!

Huge congratulations Kiwi Boy - you've come a long way since you and Lil T had lessons in the plunge pool with Graeme and he threatened to flush you down the plug hole.
ReplyDeleteKeep it up :-)
